Did You Know?

Did you know that ....

  • applying moisturiser to you skin every day can help keep your skin healthy. You should use it every day even when you aren't having a flare up!
  • hard water can irritate your skin and cause flare ups
  • alcohol found in perfumes (and aftershave) can irritate the skin and make your skin feel like it is burning especially if you are experiencing flares.
  • scents in perfumes can act as irritants or allergens & can induce flaring or make it worse
  • running a humidifier can help moisturise your skin
  • smoking can trigger or prolong flares because nicotine affects the immune system making it work harder
  • soaps which are gentle, non-scented & free of dyes are less likely to affect your skin.
  • anti-bacterial soaps will help reduce the risk infection during a flare
  • if your scalp is affected using a tar based or salicylic-acid based shampoo may help you
  • drinking alcohol is one of the most common triggers for a psoriasis flare & it can impair your immune system just like nicotine can
  • keeping a psoriasis symptom journal on how your body is affected during a flare may help you work out the triggers that cause them ie: if you change soaps, laundry liquids, new foods, stress levels etc
